Not gonna beat around the boromater bush, this section is all about making ourselves more visible on the web, hopefully with a side effect of educating our customers about who we are, what areas we service, what we do, as well as roof related issues and their causes.

For those of us owning, leasing or renting a home, duplex, townhome, bungalow, cottage or appartment in central Texas, we have certain conditions and problems we expect and deal with. Texas storms can be severe, producing strong wind, tornadoes and hail. All of these types of weather phenomonon are concerning and here's why.

Heavy rains can cause granule loss. Granules are the sand like, tiny little rocks that are attached to your shingles. They protect the underlayer of tar and fiberglass that make up the shingle. Heavy downpours can also cause flooding issues due to your roofs drainage issues. your gutters may overflow or your valleys may get pooling water allowing water to find its way in to your home.

Strong winds can rip shingles off your roof often in a cascading fashion. they will bend a shingle causing a crease and loss of granuels. this is typically seen on two story or more homes in predominatly one story neighborhoods. it is also typical of one story homes in newer neighborhoods with small trees or on houses backing upto adjacent to, or facing open fields. Wind can do quite a number on your roof and the best protection for this is having a quality roof material such as tile, metal or a high wind graded dementional shingle.

Tornadoes arent terribly comon in central TX but they do happen here. A tornado is a violently rotating column of air, in contact with the ground. When they happen they can cause a great deal of destruction to your home. The not only can rip away your roof material but also the underlaying decking and structural beams of your roof.

Hail is a comon occurance in Central Texas. We often see hail producing storms in the spring and fall seasons. Typically the hail we get isn't too bad. hail sizes that don't typically cause damage are commonly catagorized as: pea-sized, dime-sized, marble-sized, penny-sized, nickle-sized, ans quarter-sized. under normal conditions hail this size usually dosent damage your roof. Now, larger hail can damage your roof and are referred to by these sizes: walnut-sized, half dollar-sized, ping pong ball-sized,golfball-sized, hen egg-sized, tennisball-sized, baseball-sized, tea cup-sized, softball-sized, and grapefruit-sized. There have been a few recorded incidences of hail reaching larger sizes than this. once the hail reaches tennisball size it can do signifigant damage to your roof, even punching a hole through your decking to your attic or worse, the interior of your home.
